Statement by the Russian Embassy in Canada on Ambassador Andrei Karlov’s assassination in Ankara

Russian Ambassador to Turkey, H.E. Andrei Karlov, was killed in the line of duty, treacherously shot in the back.

This savage attack had a clear objective to drive a wedge between Russia and Turkey, undermine Syria peace process and global anti-terror efforts. But contrary to extremists’ aspirations, our resolve will get even stronger to eradicate the absolute evil of international terrorism.

Perpetrators and sponsors of the coward and clearly terrorist act will be brought to justice and held accountable. Terrorists are terrorists and should not be appeased.
