Address by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Canada H.E.Alexander N.Darchiev to participants of International Soccer Cup “Kids playing for Kids” (Montreal, September 30,2018)
Dear friends and soccer fans, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure and honor to welcome you all on the Closing Ceremony of the very special event inspired by the FIFA World Cup – 2018, hosted this summer by Russia.
“Kids Playing for Kids” International Cup here in Canada opens a unique opportunity for the younger generation of this country to become real soccer players by the year 2026 when the World Cup would come to North America.
It’s highly symbolic that historic decision to grant Canada, US and Mexico the right to host the major soccer tournament was approved in Moscow with Russia’s full support.
Soccer is not only about sport, it’s a philosophy, a way of life, the strongest possible denominator that brings people of many nations together.
Soccer is also about compassion, it guides us to help those in need of our care and attention, it teaches us to overcome obstacles and never lose hope despite all hardships and troubles.
My sincerest thanks to Honorable MP Frank Baylis, to the President of “Kids Playing for Kids” Mr. Ralph Nahas, to all involved in arranging this Tournament for their fantastic work to make such a great soccer performance happen.
We in Russia witnessed the creative magic of soccer that made traditional Russian hospitality even more hospitable and forced Russian national team to fulfil the “mission impossible”; I hope same miracle will happen here in eight years from now, with Team Canada playing soccer as good as hockey.
Thank you for your attention, and good luck.
